SHINYAKOZUKA launches its first collaboration with NANGA on Wednesday, September 30, with two new pieces.
The collection pairs SHINYAKOZUKA’s voluminous silhouettes and handworked-looking stitch details with NANGA’s lightweight, functional down expertise. It includes the down jacket “mid winter alpinist with nanga” and the wrist gaiter “an’ alpinist’s glove with nanga,” which brings the same design to a piece that wraps around the hands.
Inspired by the scenes imagined in SHINYAKOZUKA ISSUE #9, the collaboration brings warmth and a bold presence to winter dressing.
The inspiration for ISSUE #9, “a glove is a ‘lighthome’ isn’t it?”, came from a lone glove left behind on a city street.
Usually overlooked, a lost glove might be picked up by someone and placed somewhere visible. We imagined it as a lighthouse, lighting the way as it waits for its owner to return. In an impersonal urban landscape of signs and traffic lights, an anonymous act can give an object warmth and a story. This season’s collection explores the moment an inanimate object becomes something more personal through a range of designs.
The down jacket “mid winter alpinist with nanga” brings this idea to life. Hand-stitch-like details lend warmth to the functional, industrial character of a down garment. Its voluminous, enveloping silhouette, distinctive of SHINYAKOZUKA, combines with the lightness and proven performance NANGA has developed over the years.
“an’ alpinist’s glove with nanga” reimagines the single lost glove at the heart of the collection as a wrist gaiter. Leaving the fingers free, its soft, enveloping shape covers the wrist and back of the hand, finished with the same stitching as the down jacket.
Moving between glove and garment, function and ornament, the piece expresses ISSUE #9’s central idea: that a simple, everyday object can hold the warmth of a human touch and a story of its own. Together with NANGA’s considered craftsmanship, the collection transforms the small scene that began with a lost glove into two forms that gently embrace the winter landscape.
